Vikings: Week 2 + QB Change

I am beginning to know what Boston Red Sox fans went through from the years 1918 - 2004. Disappointment after disappointment. Expectations were so high for the Minnesota Viking this year that their 0-2 start has tempted me to put all my efforts into
  1. Fantasy Football - which I have maintained to lead my league for the first two weeks
  2. Cheering for whoever plays the Green Bay Packers each week and
  3. Cheering for the New York Jets - so Green Bay would essential miss Favre as much as possible
If you play with fire....you are eventually going to get burnt. This is what I saw as the Vikings repeatedly failed to punch in a touchdown and settled for field goals against Peyton Manning and the injured Indianapolis Colts. The Colts eventually torched the Vikings and made enough adjustments against a first half Vikings pass rush (which got me so excited - J Allen actually was a huge difference maker), to get the job done.

Positives Combined W/ Negativity

  1. AP - Adrian Peterson looks like last seasons last 4 game slump is behind him as he has rushed for an NFL leading 263 yards in two games and carries a 5.5 avg. per carry. Unfortunately AP couldn't get one in the end zone this week....If he would've scored a TD = a Vikings win.
  2. Ryan Longwell can kick....at one point 5 for 5 he was our team MVP....but although Longwell can kick he can't kick all day - that dude is old - as he missed a big one and ended the day 5 of 6.
  3. The defense intercepted one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time twice and had a decent pass rush for 2 and a half quarters. After that Anthony Gonzalez and Reggie Wayne had their way and made plays. The defensive pass rush wasn't as effective and Manning made the necessary adjustments to gut out a win.
  4. Tarvaris - man he can hand the ball off well, but other than that I saw no signs of him improving from week one to two although he did slide a couple of times. He did have Visanthe Shiancoe drop a TD and Bernard Berrian trip over his own feet on a deep ball.
  5. Zygi still having hair....if i'd spent this much money on a product that didn't work very well my hair may be gone
QB Change

Coach Brad Childress today announced that Gus Frerotte will be taking over at starting quarterback this weekend for Minnesota. When I think of Gus taking over the team it is like when we go to the lake and take towels with us that we never use because these towels are so old and crusty that we don't use them normally. Now the towels still serve their purpose, but just aren't really what you're looking for in a towel. T Jack still has a chance to be a good player in this league. Let's face it - his opportunities are diminished because of great running game - but whoever is going to be the QB for the Minnesota Vikings has got to make defenses pay and get the ball down the field - that's all there is too it. If Gus can do that - I am fine with a stinky old towel.

I laughed so hard when I read the towel analogy. Once again, a great breakdown of the Vikes... I think Gus will be more confident than T-Jack. He will be able to execute the passing game better than Tavaris, and will manage the game better.

Thanks for the breakdown brett. Love the analogy of an old lake towel equal to Gus.
