Saved From Wrath II

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 (ESV) says:
For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.
What is the "wrath" that is to come? from R.C. Sproul's Saved From What (Crossway, 2002).
  • Some scholars believe it is a reference to the impending doom of Jerusalem that occurred in 70 A.D.
  • Others see it as a reference to the last judgment.
The ultimate salvation that any human being can ever experience is RESCUE from the wrath that is to come. The RESCUE is in the form a man named Jesus Christ. Do we believe that there remains wrath that is to come? I do, but I believe many don't and chalk it up to, "That is cool for you Brett to think like that, but that's not God - man that doesn't sound fair to me" and go on living their lives without thinking about God's promised judgment and the wrath of God remains on them. I pray for the lost and pray for their RESCUE.

ubDo you find that people around this area think that because they "believe" in God, that they are Christians? That's how I was raised and wondered how much of that you see.

Totally agree! With this area of the country in the Midwest I think it tends to be that if people believe in God = I go to heaven. My personal opinion is Religion sucks - many believe around here believe that religion saves - that going to the church of your parent's tradition, that placing your kids in this confirmation, or in attending church as an act of yearly service on Easter and Christmas will get you somewhere

Interesting topic. I was speaking w/ my wife today regarding a friend of hers who is a pastor's wife and a "pluralist". Pastoring a methodist church in N.D. My wife was shocked, to say the least, since they went to college together. She spoke w/ her today about her beliefs and she confirmed that she believes in one God, but many ways to God and that God speaks through different religions to bring all to him, doesn't believe the Bible is inerrant, doesn't believe Christ is God,etc... The church is "diverse, loving of all and tolerant". My wife had no foundation to start from since she feels the Bible is full of errors. Sad reality of the effects of sin.
